November OMG

My November one monthly goal was to work on/complete these three panels.

They are all layered, two are ready to quilt with lots and lots of straight lines, and one is to the stage of just needing binding (quilting done, chenilling, and trimming done).  They are not done, but great progress was made throughout what turned out to be a very busy month, so I would call myself successful.  Until you see that I'm sneaking in at the last moment for this post...opps.  I just finished packing and moving craft mountain, a feat within itself, so we can enjoy a lovely Christmas tree that is now decorated.  This weekend we are going to finish decorating and then relax for a little time before cookie and treat baking starts next weekend!

A Day Late, But Progress Made

I was able to get a lot done this last week.  I got my homework done for my LQS's Breakfast Club before it was due, see below.  They presented the next semester's projects which I'm not dying to do, so I'm going to make my own list of goals for each month and take a semester of independent study.  I'm excited to do this, I just have to make sure I do not over plan what I'm going to work on/finish each month.  I will post my goals for each month after I finalize what they are so everyone can help hold me accountable to them.

I was also able to get all of the meat cooked up for the tamales (four batches in the crock pot), rolls made and frozen for Thursday and four pumpkin rolls, which turned out delicious.  I learned a few things making them, but I'm excited and armed with new information to make them even better than before :)

Now, what do I want to accomplish this week?  It is a very busy week with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Bonnie Hunter's mystery "On Ringo Lake" beginning, moving storage units, ringing in church and community concert, and making six batches of tamales.  As a result I have two small goals.  The first goal is to is to start quilting this panel for a chenille blanket.  My niece loves Doc McStuffin', and it contains her two favorite colors, pink and purple.  I would like to at least start it this week, if I get more done like sewing all of the straight lines I have ahead of me even better.  But, I'm not going to push myself.  My goal is to fully finish this before November 30 so I can get it in the mail, plus it is part of my OMG for November.

My second goal is to do the same thing as goal number two to this panel.  It is for my husband's Christmas gift and I have to work on it when he is not home while I am home, which is few and far between and will be even lesser soon.  I am going to get it started, how far I get just depends upon how late he stays out Friday night playing D&D with a group of friends.  This is also part of my OMG for November.  I can get the binding stitched on during lunch at work.

It will be busy, but the little sewing time I do have will be even more worth it.  A long fetch goal is to start working on the five stitch and flip wreaths for presents, but I do not want to put that added pressure on myself.  I also want to start on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, but I need to be realistic and am going to start it next week.

Have a great week (a day late) everyone!

Shawl Done!

My shawl is finally finished.  I have no idea what was holding me back, but to finish it was nice and easy.  I got to enjoy some new knitting company at the same time.  I was able to attend a knit night at one of my local yarn shops.  I enjoyed myself and was able to get it done within the first hour, even with all of the talking and project sharing that was going on.

The shawl ended up being about 33" long and 70" wide.  It is perfect for me to take to the office and wrap up when it gets a little chilly in there, which is often.  Made with yarn from Juniper Moon, which is so soft and snuggly.

I love the detail on the edges that the pattern created.  It was simple to do.  I was also able to learn a new stitch, a yarn over.  It is pretty basic, but I had never done it before!

This is #3 on my Q4 Finish-a-Long list.  I am slowly making progress on knocking them off.

Design Wall Monday

I did not get much done last week.  Errands took much longer than I anticipated (why is it that way with everything), and the weekend flew by.  This week I am regrouping and making my list smaller to hopefully make some progress on all items listed (only 3).  My first goal is to finish Step 4 for Royal Gardens, which is a quilt along with Breakfast Club at my LQS.  I want to get it done by Saturday so I can get points, which will lead to percentage off an item in December.

My second goal is to is to start quilting this panel for a chenille blanket.  My niece loves Doc McStuffin', and it contains her two favorite colors, pink and purple.  I would like to at least start it this week, if I get more done like sewing all of the straight lines I have ahead of me even better.  But, I'm not going to push myself.

My third goal is to do the same thing as goal number two to this panel.  It is for my husband's Christmas gift and I have to work on it when he is not home while I am home, which is few and far between and will be even lesser soon.  I hope to get it started, it just depends upon how late he stays out Friday night.

This week I set only 3 small goals, but it will help me make progress on these items.  This weekend also starts the annual holiday baking I do.  I am preparing Thanksgiving dinner this year, so I have lots of prep work to do, and we are making tamales for Christmas gifts for family this year.  It takes a lot of work to put them together, even though I love doing it!  As a result, I have a very full weekend ahead of me with little room for sewing time, but it will be worth it.  My husband and I are planning a weekend at the end December or in January where we just sit at home and I get to sew, and he gets to play on his game system.  I can dream about serious sewing until then, and plan what I'm going to work on to make some great progress on.

Have a great week everyone!

Baby Afghan Finished!

I finished this beautiful afghan for a co-workers baby, and just in time for the celebration for her.  I love the detail within the pattern.

The pattern I used was from Our Best Knit Baby Afghans, published by Leisure Arts, and the name is Fanciful Rose designed by Rachel J. Terrill.

The finished size is 35" by 41" made with baby acrylic yarn, perfect for any messes baby makes on it as it is machine washable and dry.

This is #23 on my Q4 Finish-a-Long list.  First finish of the quarter!

I can not wait to see what everyone has made progress on this week.

November OMG

I choose the same goal for the last few months, with very little progress made.  This month, instead of choosing the same project again, I am going to change gears and work on some Christmas gifts, and make that for my One Monthly Goal.  I want to get the three panels below fully done.  They all will be chenilled and then bound like a regular quilt.  I am excited to be getting these done, because I will still have four other panels to chenille before Christmas!

I would also like to make progress on making five stitch and flip wreaths for Christmas gifts, and start Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt, On Ringo Lake the day after Thanksgiving.  I am really excited because I am going to try and stay on top of the clues.  It is going to be a very busy month, but with serious progress to be made this weekend I am looking forward to it.

Monday Design Wall

Last week I was finally able to finish (except for the label), this baby blanket.  Come back on Friday to see it fully finished.

This week I have a four day weekend, but the first day is going to be filled with all of the errands and chores you put off for when you have a long weekend.  But, I do hope to get some quilting time in.  My first goal is to finish Clue 4 for a mystery (no longer a mystery) Bel Canto quilt at my LQS.  I want to get it done by Saturday so I can try and win free money.  (Who does not want that).

My second goal is to is to start quilting this panel for a chenille blanket.  My niece loves Doc McStuffin', and it contains her two favorite colors, pink and purple.  I hope to get it fully quilted on my new machine, and two layers cut on all the rows to chenille it.  Maybe I will even get the binding prepped, can I hope that far?  It will be so much easier to quilt it on my new machine.

My third goal is to do the same thing as goal number two to this panel.  It is for my husband's Christmas gift and I have to work on it when he is not home while I am home, which is few and far between and will be even lesser soon.

My fourth goal is to cut out this lovely baby quilt, which will be a simple rail fence quilt.  I am going to make it scrappy, so I need to cut each individual piece out and then start sewing.  I did not make any progress on this last eight weeks.

My fifth goal is to iron and cut out the fabrics for my Proud Mary quilt, which is my quilt for Busy Hands Quilts QAL from the Splash of Color book by Jackie Kunkel.  My goal is to stay up to date with this QAL, which is not happening as of last week.  To catch up I need to finish ironing my fabrics, cut the rest of my fabrics and get the first half of my blocks put together by next Monday.  Can I do it?

I did not do very well as I over planned what I wanted to get done within all facets of my life last week.  I had to really re-evaluate everything today, and I hope I made a plan for the week that everything will get accomplished and I can make some great headway with the various quilts I am trying to get done.
